In this video tutorial I show you How-to step by step setup & use an old Nokia 6250 GSM 2.5G Mobile/Cell Phone for using the Internet on a laptop that's running Ubuntu Linux 9.x or Linux Mint.
I filmed first half with my new digital video camera and the last half is created with screencasts. It just works Ubuntu has the GSM software built into the Network Manager when I connected the phone it popped up with a new connection wizard and a list of all the Australian Mobile Broadband Service Providers and their network versions and configurations. It's much cheaper to use a old Nokia mobile phone as a modem than to buy a USB modem just for the job, although they are said to work in Linux too.
